The Ph.D. in International Management - Major in Asian Finance
The Ph.D. Program in International Management was established to provide opportunities for a select group of intellectually gifted students to develop high-level research and teaching skills in international management with a particular focus on Asia and the Pacific. The goal of the program is to encourage the highest level of scholarship so graduates can look forward to career-long contributions in international management research, education, and service.
The College of Business Administration at the University of Hawaii at Manoa offers a Doctor of Philosophy in International Management that will prepare you for a career in teaching and scholarly research at the university level. This full-time program emphasizes a strong foundation in both methodological and theoretical training. A teaching opportunity, supported by an ongoing seminar in pedagogy, will give you valuable experience in the classroom.
Program Specializations
Asian Finance: The Basic Program Design
Each sub-specialization offers four theory courses in that sub-specialized area during the first two years of the program. Further, the two basic theory courses are offered in each area during the first year of the program, so as to prepare students for their qualifying examinations. Each specialization offers a set of four research methods courses, often selected from existing offerings at other UH graduate programs. Additionally, each sub-specialization will require their students to take four advanced elective theory courses either within the CBA or in departments outside the college. The advanced elective theory courses will focus on International Asia/Pacific content areas. Last, all students must enroll in BUS 705: Seminar in International Management for the first two years of their program. Enrollment in BUS 705 after the first two years is voluntary.
